SEO with iWeb.
Everybody is talking SEO nowadays and most people are saying it is not possible with iWeb.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Basically everybody goes to google, bing, msn, or yahoo in order to find what they are looking for. These search engines then supply the user with links to webpages they think the user wants to see.
Search engines look at particular things in webpages like number of adds, keywords, site organization, etc. If you optimize your site for the search engines, they will give people links to your site before giving links to somebody who has a site with tons of adds, not many keywords, and a horrible page layout.
Here are a couple tips for easily optimizing your website:
1. Page titles. In iWeb, when you create a page it is given a title like “About Me” or “Welcome”. Change these titles to a keyword rich description of the page… like “MacUnwired. Services and Products for your Apple”.
2. Don’t use iWebs navigation menu. Click on inspector, page inspector, page, and uncheck show navigation menu. Build your own navigation menu by creating buttons with text and using the link tool in inspector to link your pages together. Apples navigation menu is created using search engine unfriendly java script.
3. Use web safe fonts. Everybody likes to make their website look cool with some neat font, but iWeb will many times convert non web safe fonts to images when uploading to your website. This makes all that beautiful text worthless to search engines.
4. Use “Rage” softwares iWeb SEO tool to help optimize your iWeb site. It is great (free) software that allows you to change page titles, add page descriptions and keywords, title images, and even add google analytics code to your iweb built site!
I will add information to this post in the future, and possibly create a page with more information about SEO and iWeb. Until then, I hope somebody finds this info helpful!
